Karta Polaka — help with obtaining it

We offer full support in the procedure of applying for the Karta Polaka for people who meet the criteria.

Leave a request

Who can apply?

The basis is Polish origin or another basis provided for by law.

What next after receiving the Karta Polaka?

Holding a Karta Polaka is one of the grounds for applying for a permanent residence permit. We will help you with this procedure as well.

What is the Karta Polaka

The Karta Polaka is a document confirming belonging to the Polish Nation. It is not an identity document and does not grant citizenship, but it opens the way to many entitlements in Poland.

Conditions for obtaining it

  • Polish origin or documented involvement in activities for the Polish language and culture or the Polish minority.
  • At least a basic knowledge of the Polish language.
  • Demonstrating a connection with Polishness, including knowledge and cultivation of Polish traditions and customs.
  • A written declaration of belonging to the Polish Nation.

Where to submit the application

The application is submitted to the Polish consul in your country of residence or — if you already live in Poland — to the voivode; it can be submitted anywhere in Poland. Cases are handled by the Wielkopolska Voivodeship Office in Poznań, which accepts applications only from people registered (zameldowani) in the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship. Part of the procedure is an interview during which your knowledge of the Polish language and Polish traditions is checked.

What the Karta Polaka gives you

  • The right to work in Poland without a work permit.
  • The possibility of running a business on the same terms as Polish citizens.
  • The possibility of studying in Poland on the same terms as Polish citizens.
  • A free national visa.
  • A path to a permanent residence permit — without stamp duty — and then to citizenship.
  • The possibility of applying for a cash benefit after settling permanently in Poland.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Karta Polaka give Polish citizenship?

No. The Karta Polaka confirms belonging to the Polish Nation, but it is not equivalent to citizenship. It does, however, make it easier to obtain permanent residence and then citizenship.

Can I work in Poland with a Karta Polaka?

Yes. A Karta Polaka holder may work in Poland without a work permit and run a business on the same terms as Polish citizens.

Do I have to take a Polish language exam?

There is no separate exam, but during the interview with the consul or official, your basic knowledge of the Polish language and of Polish traditions is checked. We help you prepare for it.

How do I document Polish origin?

Most often with documents of Polish ancestors — civil status records, identity documents or other documents confirming Polish nationality. We help assess whether the documents you have are sufficient.
